In the realm of music there are many others who are far more knowledgable than I. But one thing that I like to say is that I know good music above all other types. Realizing this is nothing but my opinion and that everyone else feels the same way about the crap that they listen to I have virtually nothing to back up my argument. The one thing that I do have though is Clutch, and they are more than enough of an arguement for the likes of any naysayers.
The first time I heard of this band was actually the second music video I ever saw in my life. The reason it wasn't the first was because I woke up too early and had the misfortune of catching something by Madonna. In any event it was 1991 and they showed their second full length video on MTV's LOUD (going way back here, right?) LOUD was the only show the video for 'A Shogun Named Marcus' would ever be shown on because it was just that, loud. Angry and visceral, yet humorous and witty, I instantly fell in love with their sound, but as MTV was taken over by pop music they slowly drifted far away in my memory until it was all but lost. I have a terrible memory to begin with and this was when I was in kindergarten.
Well as fate would have it I would rediscover Clutch a full 10 years later as a freshman in high school and after buying their newest CD, Pure Rock Fury, I knew that I had heard them before. Through their excellent website: http://pro-rock.com/, I saw the music video once more and it was as though a door to my inner child had been unlocked and opened for me to see.
Though they began dark and depraved, their latest albums have noted a comedown in their pure tenacity to mix with an influx of the blues, and I say there is no instrument better designed for some good fucking music than a Hammond Organ. Give them a look see or die
w00t!
